Open to high school students (grades 9 – 12) from ages 15 through 18, this competition rewards excellence among students of America's great indigenous art form.

Pianists wishing to compete are asked to submit a CD sound recording containing three jazz songs of their choosing. All three pieces may be solo but at least one must be solo.  Judges will score these recordings on a blind basis, and the three highest scoring pianists will be invited to compete in the finals.

On Sunday, May 18, 2008, three finalists will compete in front of a panel of judges and a live audience at the Dakota Jazz Club and Restaurant.  At stake will be scholarships totaling $2,000 honoring Marie Froelich, David Paulus and Jane Matteson. The competition’s winner will also have an opportunity to perform at the Minneapolis Hot Summer Jazz Festival, the Dakota Jazz Club and/or a Schubert Club Courtroom Concert later in the year.

Rules and Application are available for downloading below.    Please read all the information carefully.  Applications must be submitted with all required information completed and sound recording enclosed, and must be received at the Schubert Club office by the deadline: 12 noon on Monday, April 14, 2008. Incomplete applications, even if submitted by the deadline, will not be accepted.
