The Schubert Club Museum Hosts 10,000 visitors in nine months since reopening

ST. PAUL, Minn. (Sept. 15, 2010) – Ten thousand visitors have enjoyed The Schubert Club Museum’s rare collection of world instruments, historic keyboards and composer manuscripts since the museum reopened nine months ago, The Schubert Club announced today.

After being recurated during much of 2009, the 4,500-square-foot gallery in downtown St. Paul’s Landmark Center was reopened in November. The museum now allows The Schubert Club to showcase its musical artifacts in a single large space, for the first time in the museum’s 31-year history. The museum is open to the public free of charge, Sunday through Friday, noon to 4 p.m..

The 10,000-visitor milestone sets an annual attendance record for The Schubert Club Museum, which coincides with the beginning of the organization’s 2010-2011 season. Throughout the entire year of 2008, only 7,000 visitors toured the museum. With the renovated museum gallery, The Schubert Club has hosted numerous school tour groups, as well as visitors of all ages.

Visitors are able to tour the museum on their own or be led by interpretive guides through the sequential exhibits, beginning with keyboard evolution and continuing to Franz Schubert and the Austrian “lieder” and recital traditions, composer manuscripts, music boxes and phonographs, Indonesian gamelan instruments and experimental instruments.

The project was managed by Exhibits Development Group, St. Paul, with design consultation by the firms Xibitz, based in Milwaukee, Wis., and Lord Cultural Resources of Toronto, Ont. Major financial support was provided by The Schubert Club’s loyal donors and board of directors.
