Richard Griffith studied Renaissance lute and vihuela da mano with Twin Cities Early Music mainstays Paul Berget and Philip Rukavina. He has performed at Renaissance fairs, Scottish Festivals and art fairs as well as wedding receptions, public concerts, and charity and corporate events. He is active in promoting Early Music and the lute to a new audience and regularly performs in non-traditional venues such as coffee houses,
shopping centers and bookstores. He is a founding member of the Twin Cities Lute Cooperative and is a regular performer, host and co-producer (along with Philip Rukavina) for the monthly St. Paul Early Music concert
series "Thursday at the Lute Café." Richard has released two CD's of Renaissance lute music. The first, "Bonny Sweete Boy: Lute Music from the Scottish Renaissance" was released in December of 2005. His second CD, "A
Renaissance Portrait," was released in January of 2007, and he is planning to release a second CD of Scottish Renaissance music in Spring 2008.
In addition to lute, Richard has performed as a magician, mentalist and guitarist and on euphonium and trombone with local brass ensembles. He is currently recording a CD of original songs and experimental instrumental music for electric guitar, synthesizer and a variety of other instruments. |
