Artist Bios
Amy Morris has developed a professional career encompassing solo, orchestral and chamber music performing and teaching. Solo performing has been the recent focus of Amy's career. A five-year collaboration with pianist Susan Garrelts has given Amy the opportunity to extensively explore old and new flute repertoire in practice and performance. It is this collaboration that culminated in the recording and release of their cds, Stories and Theme and Variations . The Duo concertizes frequently in the Twin Cities, and they performed in Scotland in 2005, and London in 2003. An orchestral flutist since graduating from college, Amy won the second flute position with the Minnesota Opera Orchestra, with which she has played since 1997. She is a substitute for the Minnesota Orchestra, and has performed with the Sarasota Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, Rome Festival Orchestra, Cedar Rapids Symphony and the American Wind Symphony. Her freelance musical experiences have been eclectic, including performances with the Three Tenors in Concert, the rock band Kansas, country singer Collin Raye, the Joffrey Ballet, VocalEssence and the Bach Society.
Amy is an active performer of chamber music. She performs educational programs with The Second Winds, a flute, oboe, clarinet and bassoon quartet. This group, originally formed by Amy in 1998, was featured on Music da camera , an educational musical program on public television. In 2003 and 2004, she developed a chamber music group at Concordia University comprised of faculty and students which presented a successful concert in February 2004.
